At Holy Innocents School, prayer is the foundation of our day. The school faculty and students gather in the oratory of the Holy Innocents School Chapel at 8:00 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. to recite the Most Holy Rosary.
Why begin and end the school day with prayer? The Most Holy Rosary is, first and foremost, a powerful devotion in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, consisting of one hundred fifty Hail Marys and fifteen Our Fathers. It serves as a meditation on the life, Passion, and glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ, guiding the faithful in deeper reflection and spiritual growth.

The Most Holy Rosary weaves a garland of spiritual roses offered to Our Blessed Mother with each prayer. The one hundred fifty Hail Marys traditionally correspond to the one hundred fifty Psalms, creating a rhythm of devotion that connects the faithful to the heart of Sacred Scripture.
Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, the Most Holy Rosary becomes a means of obtaining God’s grace. Countless conversions, known and unknown, have begun through devotion to this prayer. Its simplicity makes it especially suited for children, as it is the prayer of the little and the humble—most pleasing in the eyes of God. When recited daily, beginning in the home from infancy, it honors Our Lady and brings abundant grace.
The Most Holy Rosary is traditionally divided into the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries. Most devotees pray one-third of the Rosary daily, consisting of fifty Hail Marys and five Our Fathers.
Many indulgences are attached to the Most Holy Rosary. When prayed on a properly indulgenced Rosary, each Our Father and Hail Mary carries an indulgence of five hundred days.
A Catholic home should not let a day pass without at least one mystery of Our Lady’s Most Holy Rosary. At Holy Innocents School, students who begin and end their day with prayer will have completed an entire Rosary if they say the remaining mystery at home with their family. Through this beautiful devotion, they cultivate a lifelong habit of faith, reflection, and grace.

The Power of the Rosary

Saint Dominic, while preaching the Rosary near Carcassonne, encountered a man possessed by fifteen thousand demons—one for each mystery of the Rosary. As the crowd of twelve thousand watched, the demons reluctantly admitted that Dominic’s preaching of the Rosary struck fear into the depths of Hell, snatching countless souls from their grasp.
When Saint Dominic demanded they reveal which saint they feared most, the demons resisted, crying out in desperation for mercy. Unmoved, Saint Dominic invoked the Virgin Mary, who appeared unseen to the crowd.
At Our Lady's command, the demons confessed that SHE was their greatest enemy, a powerful advocate for sinners, and the surest path to Heaven. They admitted that no soul devoted to her had ever been damned and that her intercession secured God’s mercy even for those who deserved Hell. Forced to proclaim the power of the Rosary, they revealed that those who faithfully prayed it received the grace of true contrition and salvation.
As Saint Dominic led the people in praying the Rosary, the demons fled from the possessed man, appearing as red-hot coals. With the man freed, the crowd rejoiced, and many heretics converted, joining the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary. This miraculous event affirmed the Rosary’s divine power and the Virgin Mary’s role as protector of souls.
Recite daily the Hail Mary: Hail, Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
